This is DSHS’s Community Services Division

Nearly one out of every four Washington residents turns to the Community Services Division (CSD) within the Department of Social and Health Services’ Economic Services Administration for assistance with cash, food, child support, disability determination, transition to employment, and other services. (a grouping of names as long as the list of services they provide!) Each day, more than 4,000 ESA employees provide families and individuals across the state with the resources and support they need to build better lives. In 2013, ESA served more than 1.5 million people – representing approximately 22 percent of all Washington State residents.

Given the nationwide employment shortage post-pandemic, in combination with the sharp increase in demand for assistance, the CSD was in urgent need for employees. They wanted a video to help in their recruitment efforts, though they hadn’t created video to describe their work, or clearly state their mission and values for many years.

I stepped in and worked with a team across Economic Services and various communication departments to script, produce and edit this short video that would clearly state their values and help in their recruitment efforts.
