The Reeves Family, an Alaska Road Trip pt. 1

I originally met the charismatic Emily and Andy Reeves in an undergraduate field biology study abroad trip to Costa Rica. We kept in touch ever since.

Emily and Andy are also big fans of documentary photography, and were interested in capturing a series of unstaged photos with their two boys. Part of what I love about documentary work is the ability to have an intimate window into people’s lives without judgment. I don’t have any kids of my own, so our week together was a rare chance to play observer in the experiment that is parenting.

Andy and Emily Reeves are brave enough to frequently take their two rowdy boys Ben (4 1/2) and Joey (2 1/2) into the Alaskan countryside, even though they lament on now choosing family campsites over 2-week long extreme backcountry adventures solo together.

This album is from one beautiful evening of our trip together at a campsite outside of Fairbanks, AK, and part of a series on the Reeves Family’s time together in Alaska.
